County Louth Golf Club - Baltray Links

County Louth Golf Club or ‘Baltray’ as it is more affectionately known is situated 4 miles from the historic town of Drogheda at the mouth of the River Boyne. With the river to the south and the Irish Sea to the east, this is Links golf at is very best, with only the muted murmur of a ships engine to break the sounds of nature, as it quietly wends its way up river to the port.

Rated in Golf Digest's top 100 courses in the world as a "hidden gem", it is one of the top 25 courses in the British Isles. Sometimes ferocious and other times benign, it provides competition for all handicaps. In today's language it could well be described as "user friendly".

County Louth Golf Club has a tradition of hosting major National and International events both Amateur and Professional including most recently the 2009 3 Irish Open and 2004 Nissan Irish Open.

The 3rd green is completely hidden, so you’ll need to know where you are hitting to. Most tee boxes are raised giving good views of the hole ahead and the surrounding ones also. You may need to also take note of the wind which could be coming from any direction.

The greens at Baltray are like putting on glass which, if you master early on your round, will not punish your score too much. Big hitters will also like this course, but they will need to be accurate. There is plenty to test golfers at this course, but it is sure satisfying once conquered.
